What it is

Definition

Logorrhea is a professional term that sounds like what it is — verbal diarrhoea. It is a clear and definite, proof-positive signal that someone is seeking to dominate you. You face a wall of noise, frequently loud babble, with no chance to break in and have your say. You are reduced to an audience to a monotonous monologue.

“You are an audience to a monotonous monologue — a wall of noise built to keep you silent.”

“Does the patient’s account keep shifting — contradicting itself, looping, never resolving?”

The App’s decision algorithms cut through Logorrhea in real time, guiding your clinical assessment step by step.

How it is used

The flooding technique

Logorrhea is one of the Narcissist's favourite delay-and-divert tools. By saturating you with words, the talker denies you the gaps you need to think, evaluate and decide — the same exploitation vector used to engineer bad decisions under pressure.

Floods the channel

Loud, continuous babble leaves no opening to respond.

Denies your say

You cannot break in, question, or steer the exchange.

Asserts dominance

Holding the floor at all costs is the dominance display.

At the bedside

Why it matters in Emergency Medicine

In a clinical assessment, logorrhea is a deliberate tactic of delay, diversion and distraction — talking constantly about unrelated, even random subjects so the medic cannot establish or extract the facts needed for relevant treatment. It is vital time stolen from genuinely ill patients.

A non-acute faker can waste the para/medic's time at no personal health-risk — time that should be caring for genuinely ill patients.

How to recognise it

  • A continuous monologue you cannot interrupt.
  • Loud volume used to talk over any question.
  • Tangents, conflation and random subjects replace direct answers.
  • You leave the exchange having said nothing of your own.
Take back the floor

What to do about it

  1. 1

    Name the tactic to yourself.

Recognising the wall of noise as a dominance bid removes its power to disorient you.

  2. 2

    Hold one closed, factual question.

Return to the single fact you need, calmly and repeatedly, regardless of the flood.

  3. 3

Don't fill the silence for them.

A pause is not yours to rescue. Let the gap sit and steer back to the Eureka moment of truth.
